14th Day of Advent – Five Go Adventuring Again by Enid Blyton

Title: Five Go Adventuring Again

Author: Enid Blyton

Published: 1943

Not only do the Five have to put up with a stranger in the house, during the Christmas holidays, in this excellent Famous Five novel, but also lessons and  tutoring! From the very start George hates Mr Roland and his shifty and eerie ways – and when he suggests that Timmy, George’s beloved dog should live outside, she is outraged. And then peculiar things start happening at Kirrin Cottage. Uncle Quentin’s precious papers featuring an original formula, vanish into thin air. Immediately, George suspects the tutor – but is all as it seems at Kirrin Cottage? Everyone else seems to like Mr Roland – how can she prove to them that he is a criminal? This book is an extremely entertaining and enjoyable read and though the outcome is perhaps a little bit predictable, I always enjoy rediscovering Kirrin Cottage in it’s festivity and seasonal delight.

Christmas-Based Entertainment: Mulled Wine

I know this doesn’t really reflect the contents of ‘Five Go Adventuring Again’, but it is an excellent festive activity. Very simple – and very delicious! Perfect for a cold winter’s evening in front of the fire!
